WHO WE ARE

The Love of God in Christ Church ("The LOGIC Church", "we", "us"), operates our website, web applications, and mobile applications, including:
thelogicchurch.org, app.thelogicchurch.org, app.logic.church, and the LOGIC Lounge mobile apps (Android and iOS) (together, the "Services").

The public website is primarily informational. The web apps and mobile apps provide account features (e.g., Bible tools, media playback, notes, classes), so they collect additional data described below.

For the purposes of data protection laws, we act as a data controller when we decide why and how your personal data is used (for example, running the Website, managing church administration, and handling donations). In specific cases, we may act as a data processor for partner ministries or events.

We are committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy.

WHAT THIS POLICY COVERS

It applies when you:

  • browse or use the Website (including contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, sermon pages, event pages, and training pages),
  • use our web apps at app.thelogicchurch.org or app.logic.church,
  • install or use our mobile apps (LOGIC Lounge on Android and iOS),
  • give to us online or by bank transfer,
  • contact us by email, phone, or social media,
  • register for or attend our services, events, trainings, or small groups,
  • volunteer, serve on any of our teams, or work with us,
  • request pastoral care or prayer support.

This policy also applies to the third-party pages we link to for giving or media streaming where we determine the means and purposes of processing. Those services have their own privacy notices—please read them.

THE DATA WE COLLECT

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Identity & contact data: name, title, email address, phone number, postal address, country of residence.
  • Account & profile data: login credentials (hashed), profile details, and verification status for the web app and mobile apps.
  • Member data: service attendance, ministry/department membership, group participation (e.g., GIST centres), child dedication details, pastoral care notes (kept securely and on a need-to-know basis).
  • Children & youth data: child's name, age, parent/guardian contact details, and information needed for safe check-in and safeguarding. (Collected only with parental/guardian consent and enhanced protections).
  • Volunteer & staff data: role history, availability, references, training records, vetting outcomes where required, payroll/banking details for employees.
  • Giving & finance data: bank transfer references, giving history, online payment details (tokenised by our payment providers), and compliance information.
  • Technical & usage data: IP address, device/browser type, app version, pages or screens visited, referral source, time spent, links clicked, general location (IP-based), cookies/local storage (see Section 10), and crash or performance logs.
  • Location data: we do not collect precise GPS location unless we explicitly ask and you grant permission.
  • Content & activity data: sermons watched/listened to, Bible reading preferences, notes you create in the app, and saved or downloaded items for offline use.
  • Push notification data: device tokens to deliver notifications if you opt in.
  • Camera/QR data (optional): if you use QR scanning for attendance or check-in, we access the camera only when you initiate scanning.
  • Media: photographs, audio, and video recorded in services/events, with reasonable notice and respect for objections.
  • Communications & preferences: messages you send us, feedback, and your contact preferences.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data unless you choose to share it (e.g., prayer/pastoral request) or where necessary for safeguarding, ministry care, or legal reasons. Such data is handled with extra care and access controls.

HOW WE COLLECT DATA

  • Directly from you: via forms, email, phone calls, event registrations, donations, newsletter sign-ups, or volunteering.
  • Automatically: via cookies and similar technologies on the website and web apps, and via app telemetry/logs when you use the mobile apps.
  • From third parties: e.g., payment providers, media platforms (podcasts, radio streams, Bible content), and analytics/crash reporting providers.

APP PERMISSIONS & DEVICE ACCESS

Our mobile apps request only the permissions necessary to provide features you use. Examples include:

  • Camera: to scan QR codes for attendance or check-in (only when you initiate scanning).
  • Microphone/Audio: to play audio content and enable background playback.
  • Storage/Files: to cache media or Bible content for offline use.
  • Notifications: to send updates you opt in to.

You can manage permissions in your device settings. Some app features may not work without certain permissions.

WHY WE USE YOUR DATA (LAWFUL BASES)

We only use your personal data where a lawful basis applies, such as:

  • Consent: newsletters, media use, children's activities. (You can withdraw at any time).
  • Legitimate interests: safe and effective church operations, communications, improving services, governance.
  • Contract: registering you for events/trainings and delivering services.
  • Legal obligation: compliance with tax, record-keeping, employment, and safeguarding laws.

If you are in the UK/EEA, we rely on GDPR lawful bases.
If you are in Nigeria, we rely on the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

WHAT WE USE YOUR DATA FOR

We use personal data to:

  • operate and secure the Website,
  • operate and secure the web apps and mobile apps,
  • respond to enquiries and prayer/pastoral requests,
  • organise services, events, trainings, and small groups (including follow-up),
  • manage membership, volunteers, and staff,
  • process and acknowledge donations,
  • manage financial stewardship and accounting,
  • send updates you've opted into (e.g., newsletters, devotionals),
  • maintain safety and safeguarding, handle complaints, prevent misuse or fraud,
  • improve app performance, reliability, and user experience (e.g., diagnostics, crash reports),
  • comply with legal obligations and governance.

SHARING YOUR DATA

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with:

  • Service providers (website/web app hosting, email/SMS, streaming, storage, push notifications, analytics, and crash reporting).
  • Payment processors and banks.
  • Partner churches/ministries (for joint events, with safeguards).
  • Authorities/regulators (where required by law or vital interests).
  • Event/service attendees (basic details for team rotas, serving roles, etc., minimised and access-controlled).

Examples of third parties we may use include:

  • Crash reporting: Sentry (mobile app diagnostics).
  • Media & streaming: embedded video platforms (e.g., YouTube) and audio/radio streaming services.
  • Notifications: Apple Push Notification service (APNs), Google/Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), and web push services (where enabled).
  • Hosting & infrastructure: cloud hosting and content delivery networks for the website/web apps.

When linking to third-party platforms (e.g., giving or devotionals, media streaming), your data is also processed under their privacy notices.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Our community and service providers may be in different countries. When we transfer personal data across borders, we apply safeguards such as:

  • standard contractual clauses,
  • adequacy mechanisms, or
  • legally recognised protections.

DATA RETENTION

We keep personal data only as long as necessary, including legal/accounting needs. Examples:

  • General enquiries: up to 2 years.
  • Newsletter/communications lists: until you unsubscribe or bounce.
  • Events/trainings: up to 3 years, unless safeguarding/legal reasons require longer.
  • Donations/financial records: at least 6 years.
  • Volunteer/HR records: during service/employment + legally required period.
  • Safeguarding records: as required by law/best practice.

At the end of retention, we securely delete or anonymise data.

COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES

We use cookies to:

  • operate the Website,
  • improve functionality,
  • analyse usage,
  • tailor content.

You can manage cookies in your browser or via our cookie banner preferences. Our web apps may also use local storage to remember preferences. Disabling some may affect functionality.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

We apply extra protections for children's data.

  • Consent is obtained from a parent/guardian.
  • We do not knowingly collect children's data online without proper safeguards.

YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Withdraw consent (where applicable),

ACCOUNT DELETION

You can request account deletion at any time:

  • In the web app settings on app.thelogicchurch.org or app.logic.church under "Account Deletion".
  • In the LOGIC Lounge mobile app under "Account Deletion" in your profile/settings.
  • By emailing legal@thelogicchurch.org from your registered email address.

We will process deletion requests in line with legal and safeguarding obligations. Some records may be retained where required by law (see Data Retention).

SECURITY

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including:

  • access controls,
  • encryption in transit (where feasible),
  • staff/volunteer training.

While no system is 100% secure, we take precautions and ask you to do the same (e.g., strong passwords, cautious online messaging).

MEDIA, RECORDINGS AND LIVE-STREAMING

Our services/events may be photographed, recorded, or live-streamed.

  • We provide notice (e.g., signage).
  • We avoid focusing on individuals who object, where feasible.
